It’s time for that new website for your business but you’re not exactly sure where to start, how much it’s going to cost and what is involved. We’ve compiled a blog series, each covering 5 of the most important questions to ask a web design company before starting any new website project.
Starting or redesigning a new website from scratch is daunting, and we get that!
If you’re struggling at the very first hurdle then we’re here to help by outlining 5 more important questions you should ask any web designer before they start work on your new website. If you missed part one in this series then click here or part 2 here!
1. Who owns the rights to the website, graphics, logos & branding?
This is very important to establish. Not every web design agency has the same terms. Our own terms here at Right Track HQ is that once payment is made in full and project is complete then the website, graphics, logos and images used to create the project are the property of the client. You are free to reuse all graphics, branding , images etc. Not all web designers offer this without charging additional fees so please do your due diligence!
2. Will I receive copies of all imagery, banners, graphics, logos etc. used in creation of the website?
If the web design agency has assigned property rights to you after project payment and completion then they absolutely should supply you with copies of all the imagery and graphics. This allows you to repurpose in your own marketing. Check this in advance with your web designer.
3. Will I receive original files used to create imagery / graphics?
Once again if property of the imagery has been assigned to you then it is possible for you to ask the designer for copies of the original files from the programs used to create all imagery. These could come in the form of Photoshop or Illustrator files. This allows you to adapt the designs to suit your needs.
4. Does the web design company offer a contract and/or Service Level Agreement?
Really the answer to this should be a yes. It’s not mandatory but it is a good idea to protect all parties involved. Full disclosure; this is only something we ourselves have started doing of late and it really improves working relationships. It’s very important to have this if you are paying the company on commencement of work which is fairly standard with web design projects. A Service Level Agreement means the client is protected in terms of getting exactly what was paid for from the web designer and the web design team are protected in terms of clients potentially demanding over and above what was paid for.
5. Why should I choose you over your competition?
This one might be a bit of a challenge but it is a very valid question! It sounds a bit “interview-ey” and you can find other ways to word this but you will likely be dropping a significant amount of money with a web design team to create you an amazing new website and you would like to hear, in their own words, what sets them apart in a very saturated market. Our own answer to this important question: We may not be the cheapest team on the market but we pour our heart and soul into every project we create. We collaborate with you, the client, the whole way through in creating a rocking website that is chock-full of personality and sells with heart. We don’t just build websites; we build long term relationships to help your business grow! 🙂
So there you have 5 more questions you should be asking before you hire any web design company to develop or redesign your new website.
